GRE

The Graduate Record Examinations

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) exam is a standardised test that measures the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing skills of applicants who are interested in pursuing graduate-level studies in a variety of fields, including business, law, and the sciences.
The GRE exam is divided into three main sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The Analytical Writing section is always presented first, followed by either the Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning section.
In the Analytical Writing section,
You will be given two tasks: an issue task and an argument task. For the issue task, you will be presented with a statement and asked to respond to it by developing an argument that supports or opposes the statement. For the argument task, you will be presented with an argument and asked to evaluate its logical soundness.
In the Verbal Reasoning section,
You will answer 20 multiple-choice questions that test your ability to understand and analyse written material. The questions will require you to read and comprehend passages on a variety of topics, and then answer questions about the content, structure, and vocabulary of the passage.
In the Quantitative Reasoning section,
You will answer 20 multiple-choice questions that test your ability to understand and analyse mathematical concepts, including Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Data analysis. The questions will be presented in order of difficulty, with the harder questions appearing later in the section.
The GRE exam also includes an unscored research section or an unscored experimental section that can appear in either the Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning section. These sections are not identified on the exam, and they do not contribute to your score.
The GRE exam is scored on a scale of 130 to 170, with 170 being the highest possible score. Your score is based on your performance in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections, and the scores are combined to form a total score.
